Deborah Feldman was raised in the orthodox Hasidic community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn but after being in an arranged marriage and becoming mother herself she left the community with her son, studied and published her autobiography (which became a bestseller): Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots.
